1) So, who are you & what have you written?
I’m Sarah Hilary and I’m writing the Marnie Rome series. My debut, Someone Else’s Skin, won the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year 2015, was a Richard & Judy book club bestseller and is a World Book Night pick for 2016. It was followed by No Other Darkness last year. I’m often on Twitter, sometimes on Facebook and can be found blogging over at www.sarahhilary.com.
2) Why do you write crime fiction?
Itchy fingers. Whispering in my head. Smart readers.
3) What informs your crime writing?
Fear. Curiosity. Compassion.
4) What’s your usual writing routine?
I like white noise, and distractions. I write best when I’m restless, or edgy, or upset. I try to write every day when I’m working on something new. I hate whiteboards and post-it notes, love lists of questions. I can’t plot for toffee but my unconscious mind is really, really good at it.
5) Which crime book do you wish YOU’D written, and why?
Any one of the Ripley books by Patricia Highsmith, because then I could write a new one. Or a prequel series.
